Michael Rogers, MSPT, DPT, OCS, COMT, FAAOMPT

Michael Rogers has been a practicing physical therapist specializing in orthopedic manual physical therapy (OMPT) since graduating from University of Buffalo in 1975. Upon graduation he began his studies in OMPT by taking a series of courses taught by Dr. James Cyriax at Strong Memorial Hospital and in the spring of 1976 travelled to London to do a preceptorship under Dr. Cyriax.  He met John Mennell in 1977 and became his teaching assistant for the next 14 years. From 1978-1980 completed a series of courses in manual therapy at the Michigan State School of Osteopathic Medicine. In 1981-82 he completed a manual therapy residency program in Norway at the Sorlandets Fysikalske Institutt under the direction of Ola Grimsby.

 

Over the years he had the opportunity to study under Dr. Phil Greenman, Dr. John Bourdillon, Freddy Kaltenborn, Olaf Evjenth, David Lamb, Richard Erhard, Bjorn Svendsen, Vladimir Janda, and Laurie Hartman. In 1993 he earned his certification as a Manual Therapy Specialist in the OMT-Nordic System from the International Seminar of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy under Freddy Kaltenborn.  In 2014 the Mississippi State Board of Physical Therapy authorized him to perform dry needling in Mississippi. He earned his Clinical Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the EIM Institute of Health Professions in 2018.
He is a recognized leader in the area of residency training and fellowship and founded the Gulf Coast Graduate Physical Therapy Institute (AAOMPT recognized residency) serving as its director and lead instructor from 1982-2002. Dr. Rogers is one of the eight Founding Members of The American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) and served as its president from 1997-2000. 
 
During his career he has presented at national, state, and local conferences and has taught numerous courses in the USA and internationally. He continues to teach manual therapy courses and in 2018 co-founded Odyssey Seminars with Tonya Olson, MSPT, DPT, OCS, CMT. He currently is employed as a lead orthopedic physical therapist at Memorial Hospital of Gulfport outpatient clinic.
