To recognize and honor these contributions, these awards have been developed and awarded throughout the years.

Legacy Award

For services to the FPTA that will forever affect the association.

Award for Excellence in Academic Teaching

To acknowledge and honor an educator for excellence in academic teaching (new in 2015).

Fred Rutan Award for Excellence in Service

In recognition of a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant who has provided exceptional service on an FPTA Committee or Task Force.

Outstanding PT/PTA Team Award

To recognize outstanding clinical collaboration between a physical therapist/ physical therapist assistant (PT/PTA) team (new in 2015).

Award for Scholarly Impact on Practice

To acknowledge and honor an individual whose individual and/or collaborative scholarly activity has made a meaningful difference to clinical practice by physical therapists in Florida (new in 2015).

Rick Shutes Award for Legislative Advocacy

For exceptional service in governmental advocacy on behalf of FPTA.

Emerging Leader Award

To recognize a member who demonstrates extraordinary service early in his or her physical therapy career.


FPTA Grants

Catherine E Patla Community Awareness Grant

This award is committed to assisting Florida physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in their relations with the public and patients through community awareness of the physical therapy profession. Applications are closed for 2018.

Linda Crane Research Grant

A grant in the amount of $10,000 awarded to a member in good standing for research in any area of physical therapy specifically relating to the APTA Gude to Physical Therapist Practice. Applications are closed for 2018.
