Preparing for the Legislative Session!

FPTA Leaders & Students Advocate

Despite Hurricane Irma’s best efforts to disrupt FPTA momentum during the fall of 2017, we still managed to hold State Advocacy Days during December Legislative Interim Committee Meetings.

Twenty FPTA leaders and students, including new FPTA President Jamie Dyson, PT, DPT, descended on the state capitol on Monday and Tuesday, December 4-5, to enlighten legislators that PTs and PTAs are a viable, non-pharmacological solution for alleviating pain and suffering of individuals with pain. Physical therapy can reduce or even eliminate the need for pain medication when patients have early access to the profession.

Additionally, FPTA advocates lawmakers about the value of rehabilitative telehealth. Attention was given the AHCA Telehealth Advisory Council report that included recognition of utilizing allied healthcare practitioners such as physical therapists.

FPTA now calls on all members to reach out to their State Representatives and Senators to educate them on these issues. Fact sheets and additional messages will be provided to members via the FPTA Website and Legislative Alerts over the next several weeks. Take time to meet with your legislator over the Holidays prior to the start of the 2018 Legislative Session, January 9.
