About the Presentation

The longevity of children and youth with healthcare needs has influenced an increase of adolescents with disabilities attending non – pediatric traditional settings. Improving the transition from pediatric to adult care providers is also a national priority. There is a need to educate adult care physical therapists and physical therapist assistants on adolescent development, chronic childhood neurodevelopmental disabilities and techniques to guide adolescent patients through the rehabilitation process.
This course will describe the state of adolescent transition of health care services, discuss appropriate outcome measures and selected treatment interventions to facilitate adolescent transition and bridge the gap from pediatric physical therapy care to adult care providers.
